Today, the topic is about fact table and how it wants to relate with dimensional table.
Fact Table contains data which are usually numbers or measurements, while dimensional table contains the information or description about the data.
Examples in simpler terms:
- list of ingredients in a recipe represents fact table;
quantity of each ingredients, pre-cooking instructions and procedure are all described in the dimensional table. - names in the attendance register. here, the names goes into the fact table; on the other hand the locality, dob, marks, specialization information about that fact table data gets into the dimensional table.
To summarize, fact table represents the data that you want to analyze and dimensional table provides additional information and description about the data.
Together, they form the base of the data warehouse or business intelligence system that can be helpful to organize and categorize data in a meaningful way.
