Bognor Regis Herald: Alex Pub break-in
by Jan Cosgrove

I popped into The Alex in London Road this morning for an excellent breakfast and was dismayed to hear from Ellen, the landlady, that they had suffered a break-in in which a till had been ripped out, steaks stolen and other damage and theft. The crime has been reported and it’s hoped that external cctv may show some useful evidence of the overnight crime scene.
Mein Host Stefan told me that he and Ellen had an idea that it was people looking for money for drugs that were responsible as Ellen’s medication had been rifled also. One customer commented “bloody skagheads”….
He was most annoyed, I have to say, by the theft of 2 charity boxes, he was not impressed is all one can say. St Catherine’s Hospice was one of them, Lifeboats the other, and he estimated that there was at least £70-£80/more in them. He’d no doubt be delighted by any kind donations to help replace the stolen sums.
Stefan said he hoped the Police would make progress, Ellen was very fed-up indeed, and they’d be grateful if anyone who knows or suspects with good reason who it might be contacts the Police which can be done online:
or phone Sussex Police: just Dial 101 or email: 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk
No doubt an insurance claim can be made`but Ellen makes the point that there is the standard £250 excess and there is also the distress and disruption caused. The Herald would say that life is tough enough without the addition of such an event for a well-liked local business and its hard-working people.
Of course, the Alex was as friendly and efficient as ever despite this unwelcome intrusion.
