Bognor Regis Herald: former Town Mayor Paul Beckerson dies

Former Bognor Regis Town Mayor and Councillor at both Arun and the Town Council, Paul Beckerson, died on Monday according to information from the Town Council. At this point we have no indication of cause of death though he had been unwell for some time.

Paul, who lived in Sturges Road for many years, served as Town Mayor between 1994 to 1996 and was an active Liberal Democrat especially in the 1990s when there was a joint Labour-LD arrangement at the Town Council.

ACTIVE IN COMMUNITY

He later moved to Essex to serve as Town Clerk at Leigh-on-Sea. Paul was keenly involved in regeneration issues and was a Director of Bognor Regis Ltd. He also served as Projects Officer at the Bognor Regis Town Council. Paul was educated at Lancastrian Boys School, studied Community Governance at University of Gloucestershire,United Kingdom, and Computer Engineering at University of Brighton.

TRIBUTE

Fellow former Town Councillor and Town Councillor Roger Nash, paid tribute to Paul with whom he worked closely over those years: “Paul was one of those Bognorians who put his Town first, working hard to serve our Town. It was a privilege to have known him, my thoughts are with his family.”

Councillors have asked that a floral tribute be provided for the funeral whose arrangements are not as yet known.
