There are many fictional characters in English literature relating to archery. Different novelists and storytellers have created different fictional characters in various stories and made archery as their super talent. the Legolas is one of the most famous fiction archers of all time, created by J.R.R. Tolkien in his epic masterpiece “Lord of the Rings.”

Legolas Vertefeuille is a character from Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. Son of Thranduil, the king of the Elves of the Black Forest, his mother died in Gundabad. Legolas is a Sinda who made himself known during the Council of Elrond in 3018 of the Third Age. He fights as well as his father even a little better.

He then became part of the Fellowship of the Ring, as a representative of the Elves. Its minor importance in the events of the War of the Ring testifies to the decline of the race of Elves in favor of that of Men.

Legolas appears for the first time in Book I of the Lord of the Rings, in the chapter “The Council of Elrond”. He came to the Council of Elrond, the great meeting held by the elf lord Elrond in Fondcombe organized in order to define the people in charge of destroying the single ring. He was then an envoy of the Black Forest Wood Elves as his father’s messenger responsible for preventing the Council from Gollum’s flight. When the decision was made to destroy the One Ring in the flames of Mount Doom, Legolas volunteered to represent the elves., and to become one of the members of the Fellowship of the Ring who would embark on the destruction of the One Ring.

When the Community tried to cross the Caradhras pass, Legolas could run with agility on the snow, leaving behind little footprint, while his companions struggled to cross it, he was the only one not to be disturbed by the storm. When the passage through the Rubicorne door becomes impracticable, During their trip, Legolas often stayed in the back because of his piercing eyes. Legolas opposes Gandalf’s proposal to go through Moria, before giving in. Gimli argued with him in Moria. He confronts the goblins there and recognizes the Balrog, (of all the plagues of the Elvesthe most deadly. ( Saddened by Gandalf’s death in front of the Balrog, he nevertheless rejoiced in crossing the Lothlorien. When Gimli refuses to be blindfolded by Haldir unless Legolas shares his blindness, he begins by refusing before Aragorn decides that everyone will travel like this.

During the Community’s stay in Lorien, Legolas spends a large part of his time with the Galadhrim but also begins to establish a friendly relationship with Gimli, when the latter greeted the elf, Galadriel, with sweet words. “And the others were astonished at this change”. Before Lothorien’s departure, Legolas received a new Galadhrim longbow “longer and stronger than those of the Black Forest, and fitted with a rope of Elf hair “ from Galadriel, as well as a quiver. Later, when they were crossing the Anduin River, he used his new bow to shoot down the mount of a Nazgûlin the night, to Sarn Gebir just before the latter attacked them in the dark.

After the dissolution of the Community, Legolas accompanies Aragorn and Gimli in pursuit of the Uruk-hai of Saroumane who kidnapped Pippin and Merry. They cover forty-five leagues (~ 218 km) in less than four days. They meet Eomer, who exterminated the Uruks they were chasing. Eomer offers two horses to the three companions; the one that Legolas and Gimli ride on is called Hasufel.

Gandalf finds them at the edge of the Fangorn forest. The four companions take the road to Edoras and then participate in the battle of E Fort-the-Cor alongside the Rohirrim. Gimli and Legolas engage in a friendly competition to determine which of the two kills the greatest number of enemies. Legolas, who fights with a bow and knife, is forty-two, one less than his friend.

After the liberation of the Isengard by the Ents and the reunion with Merry and Pippin, Legolas follows Aragorn by the Way of the Dead in order to reach Minas Tirith as soon as possible. He fought at the Battle of Pelennor Fields, then at the Battle of the Black Gate, with the armies of Gondor and the kingdom of Rohan.

Once the Ring has been destroyed and peace returned, Legolas accompanies Gimli to visit the sparkling Caverns of Helm’s Deep and then leads him into the forest of Fangorn. In the Fourth Age, he settled in Ithilien with Elves from the Black Forest (renamed Vertbois-le-Grand), to clean up the country. He sets sail with Gimli after the death of King Elessar, in the year 120, to reach Tol Eressea.
