Yes…..as an American of long English descent, I am a member of a small minority. Can trace roots from an area in Devonshire back to about 1500 where it begins to get a bit iffier. I deplore the idea of the use of my language for others profit. To be clear I can read Old English well, out loud adequately, my ability in Middle English is far better, and my Modern English from Shakespeare forward …better than good.
There is nothing more integral, more deeply root, in one’s world view than language. No one should be allowed to teach it but ‘native’ speakers, those who learn it should not use it for financial gain. This would negate the efficacy of ESL classes. I mean, aren’t they taught with the idea of improving the students ability to work
I clearly understand my language has appropriated vocabulary and idiom from disparate languages, but that seems to stem from the Norman Conquest which was hardly a British choice, and from interchanges with other languages where the British were the minority element. I guess some of that might need to be eradicated if complaints ensue.
But if you are Not English, quit and desist. No complaints about this being racial. It’s not. I deserve my culture as much as the next guy. No mor English used in Rap, Yoga, festivals of any ilk but Shakespeare, jousting et al.
Oh….Halloween is coming….no denigrating costumes…witches are out.
