Political campaigns of the future

It’s a right question. It basically boils down to who hires the best team creating, posting and advertising fake news. Continue using weaponized information against your own people. Scary. And it would create even more confusion and anxiety in the future.

In my opinion, lessons from 2016 should be learned before moving on. It’s social networks who should be responsible to fix the problem. I don’t see a technical solution as it would be countered by even more clever clandestine tech (repeat forever). As an experiment, I tried creating an ad on Facebook. They still have advertising targeted to minorities… as “behavior”. Incredible. And a political campaign in not the same as brand awareness! If I follow a commercial ad and make a decision based on fraudulent information, I can sue this business. But if I follow an ad to a conspiracy site and make a decision not to vote, there is no remedy for me. I checked FB policies, they disallow a whole bunch of stuff in ads, but not explicitly fake news, political campaigning and user behaviour trackers (which is probably the worst). I believe, people whose votes got suppressed over fake news, might come forward and file a class action against social networks. Enabling voter suppression is not ok! Another thing is that our personal and behavioural data is still probably owned by Cambridge Analitica and the Trump’s team, collected without our permission and even awareness. Should it be required to be purged at least?
