I have been thinking along the same lines, about the meaning of Corbyn and his appeal to a much larger group of Labour supporters than were active before the leadership election. I agree with you that Smith would be a pointless choice for leader. We don’t want more of the same. (I’m discounting his change of tack and sudden espousal of many ‘Corbyn’ policies, because I don’t think they would last long if he got into power.) I also agree that Labour will need to become the party of community activism, and I see Corbyn himself as a sure-footed leader in this respect. He has worked like this in his constituency and understands how to empower others. He may be our best bet in the fight against xenophobia and racism.
