It is not only the development and execution cost of the ‘rescue’ mission. Running an observatory like this is extremely expensive. With JWS, their will be a superior telescope in space, in one of the Lagrange points. Better way of spending money. But as someone mentioned, Hubble should end in a museum. Just connect a small booster and lift it to 1500 km. Ik can survive for centuries in an orbit like that.
