How to kick the Prilosec OTC habit.
For 15 years I used Prilosec OTC daily. The last year it hasn’t worked well. At least once a week I would have to take a second pill or something else to stop the acid.
Lately the something else has been Apple Cider Vinegar. I would quickly swallow about one Table spoon to kill the acid.
The acid was bad!
If the Prilosec OTC wasn’t working anymore, why was I still taking it everyday?
I decided to try a little experiment. Instead of taking the Prilosec, I would drink Apple Cider Vinegar and water.
In a quart jar I poured in 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar and filled the jar the rest of the way with cold water. I drank about 1/3 after each meal. This helped a lot. I had less heart burn than when I was taking the Prilosec.
After the third day, I had no heart burn. The only problem was the Vinegar tastes bad and smells bad. My husband didn’t like it sitting on the counter.
Time to find something else to try. I came across a natural health drink recipe, Apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, salt and water were the GOOD TASTING ingredients. This did not sound good to me, but I decided to add lemon juice to my mix.
This mix worked even better for anti heart burn and no bad smell or taste. I left the salt out, because I have a low, almost no salt diet.
It has been a week since I took my last Prilosec OTC and I have very little heart burn. If I eat something that gives me heart burn I just drink some more water mix and it is gone instantly. The Prilosec didn’t work this fast.
Another great benefit is I am drinking more water. Almost an extra quart of water each day. Sometimes more, because it tastes good with the lemon juice added.
This drink mix was to help loose weight. As of a week, I can’t say I have seen a change in my weight, but I am checking it and will keep you all posted.
Prilosec OTC was costing me $24 for six weeks. The Apple Cider Vinegar cost $6.50 for a gallon and the lemon juice was $2 for a quart. At the rate I am currently using the vinegar and lemon juice I will use about a gallon of each in a 6 week period. My total cost for 6 weeks should be about $14.50.
Much cheaper and healthier for me.
How do you naturally get rid of heart burn?
