OFFICE MANAGERS — Save Your Employee’s Lives!

Sitting at a desk is killing them! OK, that’s a bit dramatic, but research does show that a standing desk helps gets you moving and that is much healthier than just sitting all day. You probably already know that the health of your employees affects the overall health of the company. If you offer your employees gym memberships, healthy foods and other healthy options, it might be time to consider a standing desk. Not only does it put a body in motion, plenty of evidence also suggests that it makes people more productive (http://www.businessinsider.com/proof-standing-desks-you-more-productive-2013-9). Many large and well know companies offer their employees standing desks individually or as a shared workstation — Facebook, Google, and Coursera just to name a few.

Despite the recent surge in popularity of standing desks, they’re not actually a new concept. Winston Churchill and Thomas Jefferson are both known to have worked at standing desks for years and Ernest Hemingway used one often. While we can’t promise you smarts and leadership skills like that, we are comfortable stating that you will be healthier if you don’t sit down in your chair the entire day.

Some of the maladies that people have reported improvement on from standing are back pain, obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Others have reported more focus and concentration, more energy, fewer headaches and even an advantage when trying to quit smoking.

If you want your company employees to come to work each day at their peak health, offering a standing desk option is a great place to start!
