We carried our 1 year old (very small- he was a preemie) all around DC during Obamas inauguration. We skipped the ceremony itself as too cold (17 degrees). We used a Kelty child backpack and snow gear for babies from REI, including double smartwool socks. We checked his hands and feet often.
