Convenience more convenient

There is one thing that is pretty hard to buy on the internet: Convenience. Need some milk for the cake that you already started baking? Now? Your best bet is probably to walk to the next store and hope that it’s open. Watching football with friends and running out of beer? Better hope that no goals are scored while you are underway. A wide range of companies are trying to change that: Amazon, Uber, Google are all on board. Convenience is the future of all FMCGs after all. With so many billion dollar companies involved, why isn’t instant Convenience here yet? Why is it still only trials and pilots run in small areas?

Because they are doing it wrong.

Instant delivery is often described as the pinnacle of logistics. But it is actually really simple. 99% of the task has been solved already. Your local convenience store has it all. Only two obstacles remain: There needs to be a simple way to order from a local shop online and then the stuff has to be delivered to you. Let’s look at the second task first. Enter, the scooter:

This beauty is 14.50€ a month. Less than 50 cents a day

Scooters are one of the most popular ways of transport in the world, because scooters are really f*cking cheap. You can easily rent a scooter for less than 50 cents a day. Also they use hardly any fuel. The one above uses 1 Liter for 35 kilometers. Of course a scooter (still) needs a driver:

Using independent contractors is actually a bad idea. Why? Because there are people working in the shop already. They are stocking the shelves, cleaning the place, doing the bookkeeping and standing behind the counter. They can do delivery, too. And when there is no delivery order they can do their other work again. No idle time. No independent contractors not making their hourly wage because they wait for customers. More job security and true full time employment. A more efficient and sustainable approach. That’s how you solve last mile delivery: Put a cheap scooter in front of the shop and let one of the staff fulfill the order.

And now for the first part: A simple way to order online. That’s what we are doing at Falcon. Simply making one website and app from which you can order from whatever delivery shop there is nearby. No upfront costs for shops. No IT hassle. Just incoming orders.
