Summer Game Fest 2023 — Recap
Hosted by Geoff Keighley, let’s look at the multitude of game announcements to kickoff our summer. This should have been the first article I write in June, but better late than never right?
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Release Date: January 18, 2024
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Amazon Luna
This is a brand new action-adventure platformer in the iconic series with deep combat, huge boss fights, and incredible platforming puzzles and animation, bringing a modern take on a legendary franchise. More details revealed at the Ubisoft Forward presentation.
Mortal Kombat 1
Release Date: September 19, 2023
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Mortal Kombat 1 reboots the series into a new timeline, and provides an entirely different take on your most beloved characters. During character selection, aside from your main fighter, you can also choose Kameo fighters to assist you in battle.
Sonic Superstars
Release Date: Fall 2023
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Sonic is back on a brand-new adventure with an all new look. Play as your favorite characters such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, and you can even team up with your friends.
Lies of P
Release Date: September 19, 2023
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Lies of P is a Soulsborne-like game inspired by the stories of Pinocchio. Demo is available for download right now.
SAND LAND
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Based on the manga from the same name by Dragon Ball creator, Akira Toriyama, you are in a mysterious desert world where humans and demons live together, and both races suffer from an extreme water shortage. Set off on an adventure in search of a Legendary Spring hidden in the desert.
Alan Wake II
Release Date: October 17, 2023
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The FBI investigate a series of ritualistic murder, and very quickly the investigation turns into a nightmare when they discover pages of a horror story written by Alan Wake, and this horror story starts to come true around them. The game has two protagonists: Alan Wake who is trying to escape from the nightmare dimension, and Saga the new hero FBI agent coming to Bright Falls. Both characters have their own separate terrifying journey through two different worlds, but you can switch between them at given points in the story as you choose.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Release Date: August 31, 2023
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
A new character was introduced named Lord Enver Gortash.
Spiderman 2
Release Date: October 20, 2023
Platforms: PS5
Spiderman 2 will introduce a new story and aside from the previously revealed villains Kraven the Hunter and Lizard, Venom will also make an appearance and this will not be Eddie Brock but someone else. Other characters will also make an appearance so look forward to it.
Palworld
Release Date: Early Access on January 2024
Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC
Palworld is a multiplayer open world survival crafting game where you can befriend and collect mysterious creatures called Pal, who can also fight. In other words, kinda like Pokémon but with guns.
Immortals of Aveum
Release Date: July 20, 2023
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Immortals of Aveum is a single player first-person magic shooter game that tells the story of Jak, a battle mage who controls all 3 colors of magic, as he joins an elite order of battlemages to save the world on the edge of abyss.
Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 4 Season 3: Wilds
Release Date: June 9, 2023
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, iOS, Android
The center of the island has collapsed, revealing a vast, hidden jungle with ancient secrets to discover. Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Tarzan, and Transformers all combined into one.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Release Date: Early 2024
Platforms: PS5
Rebirth is the second game in the Final Fantasy VII remake. Cloud, Tifa, Barret and Aerith embark on a new adventure out of Midgar and into the wider world, in pursuit of Sephiroth. The vast and explorable world along with the newly evolved speedy battles are sure to provide a most exciting gaming experience to everyone.
