Comic book movies have taken over the summer box office since the early 2000’s. They aren’t always the best movies but they are the highest grossing movies. Mostly because fan boys will pay to see their favorite character on screen no matter what. Nothing is wrong with that I saw each of the movies in the Dark Knight Trilogy 4 times or more a piece in theaters. There has been a lot of adaptations of the comic book heroes some good some really bad like Green Lantern. Below I have a list of my top 5 comic book movies of all time.

Dark Knight Trilogy

Christoper Nolan brought this series back to life with his character building and real life dark feel to it. Any three of these movies could easily be top 5 or 10 so I decided to put the trilogy in here. The reintroduction to who Bruce Wayne/Batman is in Batman Begins was perfect. The execution from character building all the way to Hans Zimmer’s score for Batman Begins was perfect. Batman had seen different directors and lead actors in the past but Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale solidified this trilogy in this prequel style movie. The second movie reintroduced The Joker played by the late Heath Ledger. The Dark Knight is arguably the greatest comic book movie of all time.

Spider Man(2002)

Spider Man to me was the kick off to epic summer movies. This movie had everything! The web slinger on the big screen was a dream come true for the original fans and new fans. Tobey Maguire was young and his back was strong so he was passionate about the role. After this movie, the trilogy was downhill although the movies got bigger the quality wasn’t there. Tobey Maguire’s health was never the same after the first movie. The leadership in this franchise was musical chairs after the first movie. Hopefully Tom Holland’s new adaptation of the superhero will be a home run.

Iron Man

One of my favorite characters. I really enjoyed it on the big screen. Robert Downey Jr. became brought Iron Man to life. Part of me believes he is Iron Man and he is the Avengers. His on-screen presence is magnificent. Iron Man is a really good trilogy but the second and third movies just don’t bring the completion that the first one does.

Wonder Woman

This movie is brand new on my list. I originally put off wanting to see this movie because of the Batman vs. Superman blunder. I saw this movie and it was wonderfully written, produced, and acted. From beginning to end this was perfect. It’s still very new in the box office so im not going to get into the actual details. Gal Gadot is a great Wonder Woman and im interested to see what DC has instore with the Justice League. Wonder Woman was able to do what The Dark Knight trilogy did and that’s give hope for DC comic book movies.

Deadpool

Deadpool was a long time coming. Lots of true fans of the character and lots of new fans. Ryan Reynolds was the perfect candidate to play this role because he is fit and he is funny. They made this movie totally different from any of the other comic book movies which to me made it so good. I fear for Deadpool 2 it won’t be as good because they are playing the same musical chair game that the Spider Man franchise played. We will have to wait and see. This movie has plenty of room for crossover into the Wolverine franchise as well as the X-Men franchise.

All five of these movies have something in common and that’s strong origin stories that the directors and screenwriters really focused on. If the origin story isn’t a focus you won’t get the emotional lock from the viewer. As of right now this is my top five in comic book movies.
