A recent thought on bouquets received by Prime Minister
An interesting advice by a citizen which flowed in for the speech of Independence Day was not to accept bouquets and the calculation made was that it cost around 1.5 crore a year. According to him Prime Minister visits many places and he is handed over a bouquet by almost every one and in recent visits to Madhya Pradesh he observed that before fragrance of the roses reached him, the second bouquet came in his hands. He must be meetings several people daily who as a mark of welcome will be handing you bouquets,” He calculated that if the PM received 10 bouquets each in say 10 meetings daily for 300 days in a year, with each bouquet costing about Rs 500, annual cost could be as high as Rs 1.5 crore!. If we calculate the use of bouquet in whole political ecosystem, then it can be easily predicted that the number of bouquet will be more than 100 times what is given to an individual Prime Minister, implying a total market of 150 crores.

If we take the whole thought on economic basis, then the above norm carries a good amount of demand in the market and lot of people are involved in the process to fulfill the demand of which maximum are the unstructured flower retailers who lead their life by selling the flowers for these purposes. The second impact can be on the farmers who cultivate the flowers for different purposes like occasions, marriages or individually sending to people on birthdays anniversaries etc. Since the suggestion was to organize a “swagat kosh” in which he could encourage people wishing to felicitate him to contribute money as a way of his welcome and the PM should keep the practice of accepting flower bouquets to the minimum. The idea can challenge on various ground regarding the awareness and implementation of the received money towards development.
If we consider the thought on societal basis then also it can be challenged, that flowers are a symbol of exuberance and optimistic approach. They provide a sanguine atmosphere around and motivate the person to go further in the goals. There are many people and firm which are only targeted to fulfill the need of this segment of the market. On individual level people send flowers to their friend and relatives on their special occasions. The flowers looks like they carry no value but their value can be measured on the emotional and psychological aspects which may affect the “happiness Index of the Country”. Even if we consider that flowers carry no value to the person then the same bouquet can be utilized for the other purpose like sending it some NGOs like Old age home in the name of the concerned person so that the older people can feel the sense of the happiness and importance which may give them a serene and peace from heart. By taking this approach so many people will become more motivate to live life in better manner.

Considering the society as a whole the induction of the western culture is clearly visible all across segments of society where people send cake and flowers to the people in order to be in the relation. With the emergence of purchasing and sending articles and products online, it has become way easier to send flowers to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc through provider of online flower delivery services across India. Since the infrastructure came up in the domain only to serve these items employs a number of people and process which created the further demand, though very minute in the economy.
