Fantastic article — thank you for the insight.
I’d say this is true for many of the overly-romanticised life events. For example, I’ve just relocated to Australian desert from the UK for the sake of a relationship, and while from the outside it seems like it’s an endless stream of wild and exotic adventures, there is so much room for all the doubts and difficulties that life would throw at me no matter where in the world I’m located, not to mention the harrowing self-awareness that comes when I’m sitting in just my pants watching Netflix. Yet I feel obliged to provide a constant source of optimism and gratefulness for having the privilege to come on this adventure, when I feel like jumping on a plane and coming home more often than I’d care to admit.
I’m sure you’re doing a bang up job of being a parent, in spite of the sysiphean hell-pit. Good luck to you.
