Carmelo Would Rather Have Gold Medals Than NBA Titles

After his big performance in the United State’s comeback win over Australia the other day, Carmelo Anthony made news by saying he’ll consider his career a success if he finishes with a few gold medals and no NBA championships. Normally, I feel like I’d kill a guy for saying that they were okay with never winning a ring, but I can’t hate on Carmelo’s stance here.

He’s a patriot and Olympic glory is important to him. It’s a form of winning, even if it isn’t against the type of competition he sees in the NBA. Yes, he’s had great teammates helping him to win these medals, but he hasn’t been given much at all in terms of NBA teammates. In a perfect world you want guys to win in both ways and want to win in both ways, but I’m cool with Carmelo realizing what he’s good at and putting his heart and soul into it. He’s one of the greatest Olympic basketball players of all time and at least something besides money, fame and ridiculous hats is important to him.

*Also Carmelo won an NCAA title so it’s not exactly the most accurate statement to say he isn’t a winner.

**I’m at the beach today so only one blog. This took a lot of effort to even do. I’m not saying I’m as big a hero as any of these athletes winning gold for our country, but I’m not not saying it.
