Hard Knocks Episode 4 Recap: Cuts Begin

So Week 4 of the Hard Knocks season is always a scary one because we know the players we’ve gotten close to (as close as you can get in 3 episodes) are on the chopping block for roster cuts. This year we were introduced to the man who grabs each player to inform them they have to go visit with Jeff Fisher on cutdown day. His name was Rock Gullickson and he was a beast of a 70 year old man. He’s a well liked strength and conditioning coach for the team but no one wants to see him when it comes time for rosters to be trimmed. He seemed like a really cool dude with a really shitty responsibility.

Rock walked around grabbing guys for the first round of cuts and luckily none of the guys that got the ax were really profiled in the show. We still have more cuts coming next week though.

The lighter parts of the episode included a Jeopardy game where players had to spell names of Mexican foods, a girl dressed as a mermaid showing up to camp to see Will Hayes and Hayes going to a dinosaur museum and basically telling the lady that took him on a tour that it was all bullshit. There was also the typical “we’re in California now” scene where the younger coach Fisher and some others pulled up to an In-N-Out Burger on a golf cart.

The rest of the episode was pretty uneventful. The Rams played a pretty crappy game in Denver and Tavon Austin signed a WAYYYY TOO BIG contract. There was a practice fight and that was pretty much it. I’d say it was the weakest episode of the season. Hopefully next week’s finale will be better.
