Lonzo Ball Officially Informs The Celtics That He Will Not Work Out For Them Prior To The NBA Draft

In an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich” show today, Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said that Lonzo Ball would not be working out for the Celtics leading up to the NBA Draft. This was rumored to be what would happen for a while now as Lonzo and his father LaVar have shown a clear preference for the Los Angeles Lakers and are trying to dictate their destination.

I hate this move and I don’t know how anyone could like it. I understand that Lonzo is from the Los Angeles area and played college hoops at UCLA, but that doesn’t mean he should refuse to play anywhere else. It’s ungrateful and makes rooting against him that much easier. He’s already going to have a tough time having anyone like him based off of some of the things that has father has done and said so far and now Lonzo, who I thought might be secretly a good kid, is acting like a brat as well.

Although I think the Celtics will take Markelle Fultz if they do indeed use the number one overall pick, this is still not the ideal situation. They can say that they have interest in Ball and will take him anyway, but I think most people will call that bluff and that diminishes Ainge’s leverage to make moves.

Regardless, I can’t wait for this kid to be a Laker so that he can become a villain for them. Although what would be much funnier is if Ball held out to get drafted by Los Angeles and then they passed on him too. It won’t happen, but I’ll sure be rooting for it.
