Preseason Football Is Odd

The Patriots and the Saints will kick off their game schedules tonight with a preseason matchup in Foxboro. Reports indicate that Tom Brady will not play, along with other Patriots starters. It’s not surprising to me that many of them will sit this one out tonight, but it is interesting that Brady will. It seems like we’ll probably see him get limited work in the next three exhibition matchups rather than going through the usual routine of playing in the first three and sitting the fourth. I’d bet Jimmy G sees a lot of action in the first 3 games and none in the last one. It’s just a new and interesting dynamic coming from Tom’s suspension.

These games mean nothing and we’ll certainly see a lot of vanilla play which will get looked at by some fans as struggles. The whole thing is really just something you want to get out of the way and not put much stock into. Both sides will be just trying to stay healthy. So don’t overreact if Jimmy doesn’t perform well enough tonight because he’ll be playing mainly with backups and in a different environment then you will see come September 11th in Arizona.
