Thank You Big Papi

It’s been like 40 minutes since Travis Shaw flew out to end the series, a sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Indians. I can’t possibly believe that the greatest Red Sock of all time, David Ortiz is done. It’s surreal. I want to wake up and have this not be the case. Without David Ortiz, I don’t know how baseball is going to be. A big part of my childhood is gone.

Ortiz had such an impact on not only me, but everyone. This whole city has such a strong connection with him and it’s heartbreaking that it’s over and that it ended this way. There’s a lot of things I want to say about this series but that is for another blog. This is about one of the greatest Boston athletes of all time and how much I appreciate him.

I don’t think I can really even put into words how much Papi means to me. I could go on and on with this blog and talk about his countless moments and all that he’s done off the field as well. He’s just one of a kind and I’ll miss the hell out of him. My heart breaks watching him tip his cap to the crowd through tears. I’m sad, angry and just plain shocked. It’s not the way for him to go out.

It just sucks. It sucks that they couldn’t get it done for him. He deserved more. Now, we have to somehow move on. I don’t know how it’ll be without the greatest DH of all time and the leader of our squad but we’ll see. I’m probably just going to hold out hope of him somehow coming back, but I don’t think that’s happening.

Even watching his closing press conference is just odd. He seems at peace. He had a great career filled with amazing achievements and countless memories. He made a real connection with this fan base and rose the occasion time and time again. We owe him so much. I can’t wait for him to be inducted into Cooperstown and I hope he joins a network as an analyst so he can stay in our lives during baseball season.

Thanks Papi, for everything you’ve given us. Boston will always love you.

*I’m pretty sure that ass clown David Price still hates Papi and secretly came here and tried to ruin his final season. That dude sucks.
