How to Handle Haters and Online Trolls.

Living behind a screen with anonymity provides people with a sense of pride and strength they may not otherwise have.

Modern technology gives rise to the keyboard warrior culture. A keyboard Warrior is a person who is quick to play devil’s advocate, shame harass or talk negatively about anyone who anyone they do not agree with.

Scroll through the comments section of YouTube, and you will find the most hateful comments you have ever read.

People can be downright cruel and heartless when it comes to commenting on other people’s content online. What do you do to deal with the haters and keyboard Warriors?

The first step is to understand that most people who hate or comment negatively on your content are often intimidated by the fact you are doing something to help yourself and improve your life.

When a person comes in contact with someone who is doing better than them in life, there is a tendency to try to discredit the other person to make yourself feel better about your insecurities.

Discounting others is a cheap way to cope and deal with insecurity. Labeling someone as lucky or gifted removes and amount of hard work that went into the accomplishment of the person. The tools haters of trolls use, generally come in one form or variation of the following:

The Tools People will use to hate or criticism you.

  • Shame
  • Guilt
  • Insults.

When you receive any of the following above from, friends, family or other people without any justification, you are dealing with haters. Point blank period.

Anyone who makes you feel guilty or shames you for making progress in life is a negative influence, and waste o your time. No emotionally healthy person will insult or guilt or shame you for taking for proactive action in your life to change your life.

How to tell the difference between criticism and Hate.

The one Question to ask if a comment is hate or general feedback is to ask yourself this simple question. Alternatively, criticism is worth your time.

Would you trade places with the person who is criticizing you? Do you want their life?

If the answer is no, you know if people are wasting your time, and it is worth it to fix anything they may have the advice to offer. I have learned through trial- and error that trying to get along with everyone I run it eventually leads to burning out and frustration.

Not everyone is going to be happy for you to advance and make progress in your life. Changing in life, and moving towards what you find meaning in life,

Unless a comment is based in sound reason or fact, the statement a person is making towards you is based out of insecurity and fear.

The default response to anyone insulting you’re or dragging your name through the mud is to respond with vengeance and anger. However, anytime you lash out in anger to someone on the internet, you lose. There is no positive outcome taken away from responding to trolls and haters on the internet.

The only thing that happens when you engage in trolls is waste. A waste of time, energy and happiness. Time and energy spent arguing and trying to prove a point on twitter, snapchat, Facebook or Youtube, could be better spent with friends, family, making money or pursuing a hobby.

Instead of debating or arguing with people who will not see what you are doing, or get anything of value out of your time. Demonstrate through actions and show what you are about.

As the Famous Dr. John Henrik Clarke Said.

“I only debate my equals. All others, I teach.”

If the person criticizing you, is where you want to be in life, and someone whom you aspire to be like, then their feedback and criticism is welcome. When you act with intention and succeed, you say more to haters than words can ever express.

If you are receiving feedback or hate that is a positive sign you are heading in the right direction, and making progress. Seldom will people go out of their way to hate or criticize people who are not doing anything in life? A harsh reality in life is if you are making progress, and going places, you will have haters and critics.

You cannot make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, just like you cannot improve your life without getting criticism and hate along the way. Be grateful if you receive feedback and hate. It means you are making progress in life.

The best way to deal with haters and critics to keep succeeding and making progress in your life.

Until next time.
