You’re not a liberal—you’re an extremist wearing trendy causes

A lot of the bad behavior you rightly lament is nothing more than an offshoot of “I didn’t get my way.” The people who grew up during the eight years the US had a president who pandered shamelessly to people based on their affiliation with a group feel, not surprisingly, that this is how it should be. The news media — with profits shrinking — feeds on that. While no one should countenance people being treated unjustly, the identity politics game has gotten us here.

Excellent article, by the way. This was the first time I’ve read one of your pieces and it will not be the last. A small quibble — when using the word “enemies” we feed into a dangerous belief that we cannot disagree with civility.
