This blog predominately has covered the unique culture of the City of Portland. This time we are going to shake things up a bit. This ladies and gentleman will be the last chapter of this blog. Thus far, we have discussed many of weird and known facts about the city, but for this final entry we will venture to some locations where weird things happen, or are just weird in themselves.

A few years back, I distantly remember sitting down after a hard day of work, I was scrolling through my iPad like God intended I spotted a headline. It was about… the naked bike ride. I was presented with many colorful photos of completely “natural” cyclists peddling there way through Oregon’s largest city. I was not shocked by this. After all, like any green-blooded Oregonian I was simply amused. This spectacle contained to roll along across one of city’s many bridges.

On a more fully-clothed note, Tom McCall Waterfront Park is also home to a menagerie of Portland events. Probably one of the most noteworthy would be the Portland Saturday Market. It occurs every Saturday starting in March, and continuing till December 24. The market has a multitude of venders which sell everything thing you might expect, but this is Portland after all, so you will also see other unusual fair for purchase.

Pioneer Square is also a focal point of interest. What could be described as the living room of the city, Portlanders of all shapes and sizes gather here at all times of the day. It’s also a good starting point for those visiting the city due to its central location in the heart of downtown.

Even though it may not be “weird” in the typical Portland sense, it would be sacrilegious not to mention the Pearl District when discussing locations within the city. Often simply referred to as the Pearl, this is the more affluent side of town. It features all the fancy accouterments and swanky hangouts you would expect from an area like this.

With that said, despite the city’s unofficial slogan of “Keep Portland Weird,” there really is something for everyone here. Portland has changed and evolved just within the last 20 years it would almost be unrecognizable to a citizen from an even earlier date. Whether its the night life, the architecture, or the gathering places themselves, one thing is for certain. Portland’s identity and influence shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Stay tuned.
