I haven’t seen a Chris Nolan movie I didn’t like. He’s an incredibly thoughtful, talented filmmaker. He reminds me a lot of Spielberg, in that he’s not above making blockbusters, but still gives the people watching them the credit they deserve.
My favorite, though, is The Prestige. It’s a movie I’ve come back to more than anything else he’s done. Kate put it really well here, “The Prestige has a plot enhanced by its convoluted high-concept twists rather than defined by it.” It’s a movie about deception and sleight of hand, so it makes thematic sense that it would try to distract you.
Plus, Bowie as Tesla is the best piece of casting I’ve ever seen.
