Why am I getting username sync issues when I send issues from Aha to JIRA?

I’ve been trying to get to the bottom of this issue for a while now in Aha! and the root cause was being misdirected by a config issue in JIRA.

Symptoms

  1. You have an Aha! user with the same email address they are using in JIRA.
  2. You assign them the issue in Aha!
  3. You get username missing errors in Aha! when you try to sync issues over to the JIRA board.
  4. The issues in Aha fail to synchronise to JIRA because of the user name errors.

Root Cause

The problem boils down to the JIRA user not being correctly assigned a JIRA Role on the board you are trying to push the Aha! tasks to.

Remedy

You can fix this issue if you are the Administrator of the JIRA project you linked to in Aha!

  1. In the JIRA project, click Project Administration > Roles
  2. If your organisation uses groups to manage users, make sure the user that is generating the error in Aha! is added to the Developer group in the JIRA Roles.
  3. If you are not using JIRA Groups, explicitly declare the JIRA user as a Developer on the JIRA project.
