After reading this article I feel like the education system is cheating the students. In a way it seems to be more of a “hunger games”-esque , survival of the fittest; It’s who can get the best grades while under the most stress. I think this physiological test is both beneficial and detrimental to the education of students. It is beneficial for employers because it shows who is more capable to respond positively to stress and who is better at managing their time. A grade point average could be a great indicator of who is an effective fulltime worker. It proves that they were accurate and efficient, thorough and organized. If the students added demanding extracurricular activities and involvement, that just proves all the more their impressiveness. The lack of focus in the education field on student sleep could be detrimental because it takes away from the learning experience of the students and robs them of opportunity of lasting learning. As stated in the article sleep is essential for student learning and REM helps us organize and prioritize the things we experience. Not only that but the article said that sleep boosts our problem-solving ability. So, is it a fair examination of student’s abilities if they are not at their best? Or maybe the school systems aren’t looking for that and want to test the mental breaking point of students. Personally, I believe in the interest of the students actually getting the most out of their education and to unleash their creative possibilities in the work field, the education system should be more cognizant and focused on student’s getting enough sleep.
