I think that we get lost trying to to achieve something that we already have just like the fulfillment in the story. I believe that finding happiness or fulfillment isn’t just from not searching for it but also a couple other things: Gratitude, accurate perceptions of reality, and mindfulness. First, I think gratitude is essential in the pursuit of happiness because it allows us to change our perception of something from not good or not enough to an abundance and blessing. When our perception changes, we allow ourselves to find joy in whatever state we are in. I also believe that having an accurate expectation of what we want our reality to be is essential. Expecting to feel great after eating a bag of Cheetos is not a great way to find happiness. But expecting cheesy goodness while you munch on a few savory morsels is a fantastic expectation and will definitely be a reality. Incorporate gratitude into the picture and you have yourself a tasty snack. The last part I wanted to include that is essential to finding happiness, is mindfulness. Mindfulness is the art of experiencing the moment. I believe it’s similar to the story of the two men who didn’t find fulfillment until they stopped looking. They had to let themselves experience the life they had before they could actually appreciate it and find joy in it. Their focus on the future and search was the true barrier that was stoping their success. By combining these three concepts, Gratitude, a reality check and mindfulness I think that life is a whole lot more fulfilling and Cheetos are a tasty snack.
