시 …작 (Start)! First Post

Greetings, everyone!

My name is Jarren L. Santos and, at the current time of writing this post, I am an undergraduate senior at Grinnell College. I am currently majoring in General Sciences-Biology with a concentration in Statistics. I am quite interested in the intersection of public health and big data and how we can use such information to develop real-life solutions and convey impactful messages to the community. As an aside, I enjoy learning about different languages such as Korean (used in the title), Mandarin, Spanish, and Tagalog (my second language).

With much prodding and advice by friends and alumni respectively, I have decided to start posting on Medium to share insight and to rant endlessly about my experiences. Mainly, I want to focus on the experiences I have had trying to steer my life into a career path and field I am happy to work in. Through these past several years, I have changed my career trajectory at least seven times and my major and concentration at least five times. I can empathize with those that are undecided about their futures and where to start and go, but I can also stick with my decisions and learn from an opportunity, regardless of success or failure. Outside of these events, I also want to use this platform to share my thoughts and project ideas.

This post is basic, I am aware. However, it marks the start of an attempt to shed some light about my identity and personality along with some up and coming topics in public health, technology, data science, and more, and my return to the writing world — I used to blog and rant back in high school.

With that, I say this: Cheers to my final year at Grinnell College and to my first year in sharing and obtaining knowledge!
