What happens when an athlete becomes an activist? Muhammad Ali, Bill Russell, Paul Robeson, the list goes on.

When Colin Kaepernick decided to sit during the national anthem at the San Francisco 49ers opening game of the 2016–2017 National Football League season, he brought attention to an unspoken truth that has continuously been present throughout sports history: the only purpose of a black athlete should be to entertain.

Now, with the start of a new football season, hundreds gathered in front of the NFL headquarters in New York City in support of Kaepernick, who is yet to be signed by any team.
