Bette Davis Ain’t for Sissies — A One Woman Show

What a show! What an actor!

Jessica Sherr, who has also written this one-woman show, skillfully maneuvered the stage with gobs of presence and acumen in last Tuesday’s performance of “Bette Davis Ain’t for Sissies”. The show was performed for the second time at The Players in Gramercy Park, NYC.

This show is a fantastic jaunt, captivating the audience through all 60 minutes. Sherr has skillfully crafted both Davis and surrounding characters to tell the story of the night she lost at the Oscars. This show bringings to light not only the diamond that Bette Davis was, but her importance to the Hollywood industry and the movement she led to free actors from contracts that compared to enslavement.

Both Bette Davis the character and Jessica Sherr the actor were unstoppable, even from their own soundboard operator who flopped their cue more than once. Sherr shows true commitment and honesty to her piece, which rides on a gallop through the laughing audiences. I will happily see this show, and actor, at my next opportunity.
