Are Metal Roofs Worth It?

With the variety of roofing materials available nowadays, metal is still a preferable material. It does have it’s pros and cons, however, and we need to look at them to make a better evaluation if a metal roof is best for you.
First of all, metal roofs are durable. They’re built to last and with proper maintenance will last for decades. This means less money spent on repairs and replacement parts. It calls for just regular inspection to prevent damage and to repair damage before getting worse.
Metal roofs also can be heat reflecting. The Sun’s UV and other light and radiation can be easily deflected back into the atmosphere with a metal roof. Just plain metal roofs can do this but there are several modifications to such roof that can do the job as well. Some roofs have coating to help the reflecting of such energies and some have paints that will do the what it takes too. It takes some shopping and research but it can be done. The savings on one’s utilities is easy to see thus making the choice of a metal roof equitable by default.
Pests find it impossible to compromise the structure of a metal roof. None of that holes being gnawed into your roof by rodents. Birds too won’t find safe harbor on a metal roof and insects might as well just look for cracks and other ways to gain entry to your home because no termite yet can chew through metal. This is a major plus to having a metal roof. Homes are constantly damaged by insects and animals, but metal puts an end to hat problem before it even begins.
You won’t find rot as a problem with a metal roof either. Other materials that are organic like wood will rot. Grow fungi, and be a mess to keep mainentanced. You want a material that won’t be a foothold to some organism like mold or mildew and if such does cling to the roof it won’t eat through and can easily be cleaned with a brush or garden hose.
Another plus is that metal roofs can withstand storm damage better. With the extreme weather conditions in the US, a metal roof is preferable to protect ones family and household. Strong and durable, metal roofs, professionally installed should weather any weather problems that come along. Moisture won’t be a problem either as it won’t rust the metal used, so again, natures forces are bested by a metal roof.
Further equity can be found in using a metal roof in the overall savings and insurance breaks. One should check with their insurance agent to find out if using such material is a better choice and a cut in insurance costs.
There are more goodies to having a metal roof but we must also take a look at the downside of using the material.
Basically, metal roofs cost more to purchase and install.
This may seem daunting but in the long run it can be quite equitable considering the overall savings on energy and maintenance that the material provides the home. It may be wiser to pay that extra few dollars for a proven quality material than just walk away and have to pay much more down the road.
Metal roofs can be a bit noisy however. Rain hitting them can raise the roof regarding annoying noise unless an undercoating is used to muffle it. That might cost more too but you local roofing professional should know exactly what to do..
Overall the pros outweigh the cons in regard to installing a metal roof on your house.
