I had some related ideas about cryptocurrencies possibly enabling a Universal Basic Income. Many people may donate computing cycles to clearing transactions just out of altruism which could prevent the value of the currency from ever going to zero. As long as there is some value to the currency, it seems likely that someone will offer goods and services to capture the free currency going out at regular intervals.
