Claire Suellentrop, great question. I truly believe people set out with good intentions, but don’t realize how much goes into running an actual business. They wanted to do XYZ thing (like being a chef, or arranging flowers) but they fail to realize you can’t just show up and do those things and that all the other business stuff will get handled magically.
It does bring to mind a question and an idea for another article: “Do you want to care about customers?”
That’s what has to be done. You have to care, or you won’t run a successful business. And caring isn’t just being nice, it’s being on time, delivering what you say you’ll do, and being consistent day after day (even when some days suck horribly, as they will).
