Challenging myself

Kirkbride wrote a challenge after Code camp. It inspired me, I’m resolved to continue attending events like Code camp, to continue lightning talks. And to one day make a presentation at Code camp myself, perhaps even Code Mash. I’m currently in several Coursera Classes, but once those are completed, I will see about redoubling my efforts to speak.

Plus I will start using medium as a way to write my ideas down, and continue to update this article with my actions.

Thanks for the Challenge, let’s see what happens.

Oct. 16 2014 — went to Uncle Bob talk at the Marcus Theaters as part of CONDG meeting. Was nice to see some Pillars plus meet a few new people. Along with the obligatory pizza. Was eye opening to realize that languages haven’t changed that much, although less features to make it safer. But with tradeoffs (no longer managing memory, or virtual functions), in the future maybe no assignments aka functional programming.

Oct. 20, 2014, and Oct. 22, 2014 — Downloaded Rust, and will be going to a Rust user group meeting this Wednesday. There are two more follow ups in November, and December. If this first one goes well, I’ll go the others. It turns out the meeting location is closer to my home, so good commute back from the meeting.

November 6, 2014 — Next wednesday 2nd Rust meetup.

November 20, 2014 — I will be helping host a Google meetup group at the forge. Should be third Thursday of each month, starting next month. Will be getting to see alot of great talks, and helping out with this group. I did make the 2nd rust meetup via google hangout. Capstone is much closer to being completed.

January 19, 2015 — Have helped with 2 GDG meetups, and have started a Udacity study group. It will meet on Mondays in February and March. We will be taking part in a mobile app development challenge to get apps in the AppStores.
