40: Spreading the gospel of fitness with Kristen Olson

Today’s guest is Kristen Olson.

Kristen and I first connected back in December 2015 through Denver Sports Recovery.

I came across DSR and was really impressed with all of the services and cool equipment they have.

Having just launched this podcast, I really wanted to get some of their experts on to talk about what they do.

Since Kristen’s the Brand Manager for DSR and NeuraPerformance (who we talked about in the previous episode), she was the one to follow up with me.

She’s arranged interviews with DSR’s Recovery Specialist, Chris Contini, who was on episode 27, Rachel Ragsdale from ep. 39, and several more to come.

I wanted Kristen on the show because she’s doing so much for the Colorado fitness community and “Spreading the gospel of fitness”as she says.

Colorado Rising Stars Lacrosse, LLC:

We are devoted to bringing athletes to a higher level on and off the field through professional lacrosse camps, tournaments, and events. We create a platform for all players to gain necessary life skills through the median of sport. Skills such as: commitment, team work, leadership, confidence, and many more. Our lacrosse practice field is a perfect place to develop for life’s playing field. We aim to bring lacrosse participation to new heights locally, nationally, and internationally; sharing and growing the sport we love so much. CRS LAX, LLC is a family run organization that has built a reputation of excellence on the foundation of providing leading year round lacrosse events and programs to all players. We are committed to continuing our tradition of expanding and developing the lacrosse environment by cultivating a positive athletic and life experience for all, and for many years to come. Translation: Continue our working efforts to master the ever important balance between work and play. After all, life is “all fun and games”

KO Alliance

As a life long team athlete and true believer in living a healthy lifestyle, the KO Alliance mission is to strategically align fitness forces (brands) with zealots to further spread the gospel of fitness. KO Alliance strategically aligns brands in the fitness space and builds key partnerships and activations. We create mutually beneficial relationships for athletes, gyms, and brands.

Born and raised in Colorado, Kristen comes from a family who loves sports.

She’s been playing lacrosse since she was a kid and has developed a passion for Crossfit, competing in several CF games over the years.

She’s actually doing this interview from the Crossfit games where her dad is competing.

Since Kristen has so much experience with Crossfit, I asked for her advice for anyone who’s just starting out.

She says,

Crossfit’s pretty new for everybody. It’s not a sport that we grew up playing.

Nobody starts out doing 50 pull-ups.

You go in to it for fitness and to become a better you, but you gain friendships and become part of a community.

To anyone who’s walking through those Crossfit doors for the first time, go with an open mind and have fun.

Reach out to Kristen if you are looking for advice or connections.

Be sure to check out the Do More Charity Challenge coming October 1 & 2.

We all have charity causes that we believe in. The Do More Charity Challenge allows you to choose the cause that YOU believe in and want to compete on behalf of. And if you do well, earn money for their cause.

It is a 6 person, two-day event that is going to be a lot of fun. If you have any questions, send an email to: skip@frontrangecrossfit.com.

The Do More Charity Challenge is the only event in the CrossFit world where you can earn money for your charity of choice with your athletic performance. Last year we reased $105,000 in sponsorship dollars for the prize purse. Our goal for 2016 is to raise that prize purse to $150,000. We will be awarding that prize purse to the top 10 teams Charity of Choice.

Lastly, I mentioned Fit2BeKids at the end of the podcast.

This is an amazing nonprofit, specializing in fitness activities, nutrition counseling and life coping skills for low-income/at-risk and special-needs children.

They are seeking volunteers who are passionate about kids, loves the Fit2BeKids mission and who are willing and able to donate 4 hours a month (2 hours on the 1st and 2 hours on the 3rd Saturday of every month). If you or someone you know might be interested, please reach out to Shae at shaefit2bekids@gmail.com.

Thank you for checking out the show notes, listening to the show and for all the support!

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
