We’ve been spending time discussing synthetic organisms, artificial life, and AI agents. For now, I want to come back to synthetic intelligence. Before I begin, let’s roll through a quick refresher. The line of discussion started with asking what is synthetic intelligence. In that work, I asserted we, the public, have been duped into viewing artificial intelligence as real intelligence and capable of thinking. Since then I’ve demonstrated various forms of AI which is imitative as well as types of synthetic intelligence which is…well, just as real as real.

In this story, I want to change topics to communication. More specifically: if we assume a synthetic organism is autonomous and has the ability to communicate, what would be a safe way to do so? By safe, I mean the communication won’t lead to the organism escaping its simulation, leaking information, or otherwise being able to cause harm.

Ensuring safe communication with a synthetic organism requires careful design and consideration of potential risks. This is also true for any autonomous intelligent system or any agent we run in a simulation.

Here are some concepts and strategies that could be employed to maintain safety:

  1. Isolation: Keep the…
