Not for everyone

I spent much of the last two weeks working on a Halloween costume for my eldest son Ethan. Procuring all the materials for the premier one of a kind getup that would make other 6 years old yearn.

I worked the better part of 10 hours perfecting every detail. We solved every technical challenage we faced. Solving problems that NASA would be proud of…ok not really. Making this costume was of utmost priority to me as it really excited him and the possibility of being the only Luke Skywalker Lego in the neighborhood.

The project spawned from the fact that he really wasn’t excited about Halloween and even told me weeks before that he wouldn’t be trick or treating. I shouldn’t have been surprised. After a bit of reflection, he hasn’t really had an interest in Halloween for four years now.

The heart of the matter is that the whole night just scares him. He finally admitted to me that’s what the problem is.He just doesn’t like to dress up and go out.

Long and short is the we love our kids so much and we just want to see them happy, excited and learning about life by exploring who they are and what they want to do and be.He’s learning who he is, I’m learning who he is and frankly I’m still learning who I am. We are all learning. Hopefully.

If Halloween isn’t his thing so be it. There are lots of “not my thing” items on my list.
