NO spoiler Review

I saw this movie with my girlfriend at an early screening and it is without a doubt one of the worst movies ive ever seen. And this review of the movie is equally bad. Its a standard feminist call to support your “sister in arms” by going to see this movie because the author knows its bad — because a woman cant bash an all woman movie right? And as I will show, her assertion that the movie isnt overtly pandering to woman is preposterous. Its obvious that hollywood is male dominated (bechdel test makes this painfully clear), but this movie is worse than an overcorrection — its so over the top that it actually sets back all-women movies in hollywood. The message of this movie is that all men are bad. All the men are assholes or idiots and all the villains are male. For example, the mayor and this club guy are portrayed as just the most vile, reprehensible assholes and there is a running joke with this chinese food delivery guy and hes portrayed as being a complete buffoon. Chris Hemsworth is actually hilarious in the movie but hes portrayed as a dumb as nails secretary (note the gender role reversal — the movie is not subtle about anything when it comes to man bashing). And the way the deal with the ghost villains in the movie is that they shoot them in the dick — yes thats right — they defeat the male ghosts by hitting them in the dick (because fuck men right?). And thats fine I dont care, I dont get offended by this kind of thing (men are in need of a good bashing). But I just find it funny that the cast, celebrities, and women online are saying if you dont like this movie you are a sexist. No I hate it because its fucking garbage. Plus there will be some men that will call it sexist and be ignored because no one cares if men are hurt. Even my girlfriend found this movie repugnant. The word feminism shouldnt even be associated with this movie. Feminism is about making sure men and women have equal rights and are treated the same — there is nothing feminist about this movie. I completely agree women are undervalued in hollywood and dont get the same respect as men, but this movie was the completely wrong way to go about it and actually sets women back. The word feminazi is so incredibly disgusting and offensive, but its almost as if this movie was made with the idea that being one is a badge of honor.

Also the movie is pretty racist. All 3 white women are qualified in science fields and have doctorates and masters from MIT. The black woman is qualified in “the city of new York” — thats literally what she brings to the table — knowledge of New York from her MTA job. And shes portrayed as the worst sterotype of a black woman — she just spews a barrage of “ahhh hell naw” and “mmmmmhhhhmmmss” and is just overly loud.

Not to mention the effects are pretty horrible. You can tell the whole movie was green-screened. Its just painfully obvious. Also completely gets the idea of the previous movies wrong. In the OG ghostbusters they contain the ghosts with the proton packs and and containment unit — in this movie they are just straight up murdering ghosts and the proton pack is appartently just a backpack gun.

I went in to the movie with an open mind — I actually wanted to like this movie. I didnt dislike any of the people involved. but no it was just terrible. Dont see this movie. Just dont. I give it an F, because Chris Hemsworth saves it from being an F-.
