@Paul: “Get over it” is a great response. It’s what I imagine the loyalists said to the revolutionaries fighting for American independence and democracy. “So what if we’re taxed by Parliament without any representation? Get over it.”

It’s definitely what the racists who resited the Civil Rights movement said about segregation. Get over it.

So what exactly is the “it” you’d like us to get over? Trump violating a basic rule of democracy that has guaranteed that our elected officials make policy for the public good and not for their private gain? If so, “getting over it” would mean getting over democracy.

I live in Mexico, a country where that kind of blurring of the public and the private is the rule, not the exception. It should be resisted by any American who loves democracy and thinks it’s worth fighting for, whatever their political orientation. So, no, sorry, this American will not “get over it.”
