IS IT REALLY BETTER FOR ORRVILLE TO PRODUCE ITS OWN POWER?
Does the town you live in produce its own power? Have you ever wondered if its cheaper for you town to not produce the power. Would it be cheaper or more expensive to the restaurant? All this is what I’m trying to figure out. As a life long resident of Orrville these are the many questions that myself and others as ourselves on a daily basis.
It costs a lot of money to generate power, to provide yearly upgrades to the power plant and the equipment such as boilers. I have found that even with all these expenses Orrville utilities is bar far cheaper than AEP or first energy. Orrville also is very prompt at responding to outages in the coverage area with a usual response time of less than one hour compared to the 2 to 4 hour wait for other service providers.
Within the last year the EPA contacted Orrville Utillities and notified them that they are to do a change over from being a coal driven power plant to a natural gas power plant. The EPA stated they could either spend the money for the changeover or the can shutdown all operations. Orrville decided it was in the best interest of the residents to spend the money for the upgrades. You would think that with such a big expense the utilities board would have to raise rates but that is not the case. The rates will all stay the same.
There’s a lot more i would like to say about this subject but time does not allow. Just know that when your out searching for a house or an apartment that you check into what that area has to offer in the way of electric service. Ask around to the residents to see what they have and why they chose the way they did. This just goes to show you a good hometown company is usually the best way to go as far as prices and service.
