To go along with your point “It’s a shock, whenever you leave the U.S., to realize how much other people understand that history matters”…I never understood how little I knew about my history until I went to Paris. While there, a beautiful woman that ran a crepes stand that her parents owned (Italian father, Korean mother) asked me “Where are you from?”. I kindly responded “America”. She replied “No, where is your family from?”. It f**ked me up. I had no clue. I had no answer. I just shrugged my shoulders. That history is so important but it wasn’t until that moment did I realize it. Since I’ve done an ancestry dna test, family tree research, etc…
