Just Say “NO” You Idiot.

This can be the dumbest and probably the hardest thing to do in business, saying “no thank you” to a piece of work. In fact saying no to anyone and anything, under win/lose circumstances is a very difficult thing to do.

There are certain businesses I know of that haven’t said no to new business and or do not believe in saying no to new business, and as a result their business is crumbling. WTF. Seriously this is possible, if you take on every piece of work you ever get asked to take on, your business will struggle and even fail. You’ll flood it.

Knowing what business to go for is the trick to making it all work.

At the start, I agree it’s about paying the bills and you have to say yes to anything, because you have to build that momentum, but time is just as important, you can spend hours upon hours trying to make something happen in your business and not getting the right dollars for your time, and as a result you lose. Big time. This is why it’s so hard to scale an agency business model up.

Here’s my solution; Figure out what you want to stand for. Yes, do the research on who’s who and who’s winning what work in your market, it’s reasonably easy to do. Once you have figured this out, go after what you want. You can’t ask a client what they want in a pitch, when you don’t even know what your business wants, and is best at providing value for.

Once you position your business in a market as a thought leader, and as a business that knows what they do best and what they can provide value for, your business will sky rocket! We’ve proved this twice in 2 years.

Thank you for reading my medium blogs, I’m so passionate about making things work in business, I’m only young at this, but so far so good. I welcome any questions around building agency businesses. Jason@justdigitalpeople.com.au
