Lotus Temple in Delhi is a wonderful example of religious art and architectural design. it is called lotus because the design and shape of the temple is lotus. It has several names like Bahai ‘i faith house of worship, Lotus temple, and Kamal Mandir ( Hindi). it is made of white marble and surrounded by 9 wonderful ponds and greenery gardens. It is also called the mother of Indian temples, mainly known for its notable and unique architecture. it was built in December 1986.

Lotus temple in Delhi is one of the seven Bahai faith temples all over the world. Flint and Niel designed the structure of this temple, it took almost 18 months. The total cost of construction of the temple is $10.56 million. The Architecture of the temple is Fariborz Sahba. He was an Iranian architect, influenced by the lotus flowers that lotus are the symbol of purity and beauty in various religions. ECC Construction Group of Larsen and Turban were the contractors of the temple.

How to Reach

By Airport: Indira Gandhi International Airport

From the Airport catch a metro towards the Kalka ji Mandir(The nearest metro to Lotus Temple). otherwise, hire a taxi or boom a cab to reach the temple. But the best option is via the metro.

By Railway Station: New Delhi Railway Station

From the railway station catch a metro towards the Kalka Ji Mandir Metro Station. The New Dehli metro station is near the railway station. That’s why it is the best option to reach the lotus temple. ( Book tickets from MakeMyTrip)

New Delhi to Kalka ji Mandir Metro Station: 40 Rs for normal people ( for smart card people: 36 Rs). From the New Delhi metro after that change Violet line at Central Secretariat metro station, it will take less than 40 mins. After exiting from the metro station from any gate, there is a Kalka Ji mandir near the metro station, but for Lotus temple, you have to walk at least 20 minutes to reach Lotus temple.

There is a very crowded area many people come to visit to see the Lotus temple, then you have to follow the Men’s line and women follow the women’s line. It will take 30 min or more depending on the number of people on that day.

When you exit from the temple there is a small pond, in which many coins are in the water. People throw the coin inside the pond. I don’t know why but many people do like that, and I am one of them. people pray and meditate inside the temple and experience the purity atmosphere.

Architecture is designed by Fariborz Sahba, and constructed by ECC Group of Larsen and Turban, the temple is spread over 26 acres of land. The temple is coming out of the concept of purity and simplicity of all religions of the Baha’i faith. it has a capacity of 1300 people individuals inside the temple. Each component of the temple is repeated 9 times. It was a surprise thing that 1000 Sq meter marble was imported from Greece and cutting of the marble is done in Italy. it is surrounded by 9 ponds and a beautiful greenery.

There is no mobile phone allowed inside the Temple, you have to keep silent or switch it off.

No photography is allowed inside the temple but you can take pictures taking risks, there are many guards inside the temple, and they take care of the security.

When you go inside the temple you have to take a bag to keep your shoes, because shoes are not allowed inside the temple.
