In a significant development, Microsoft Corp. has announced the integration of its renowned Bing search engine into ChatGPT, enhancing the capabilities of the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. This integration allows ChatGPT to provide users with real-time information, marking a significant shift from its previous limitation of retrieving data only up until 2021.

The unveiling of the Bing-informed chatbot took place at a developer conference held in Seattle on Tuesday. Microsoft introduced the experimental model of ChatGPT in March, enabling the chatbot to browse the internet for up-to-date information. However, the use of Bing as the underlying search engine was not explicitly disclosed at that time. This integration with Bing opens up a new era for ChatGPT, expanding its access to real-time data.

Initially, the Bing integration will be available exclusively to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, the premium-tier service introduced in February at a cost of $20 per month. This service provided subscribers with advanced features and benefits, and the addition of real-time information further enhances its value. However, Microsoft has plans to eventually roll out the Bing integration to the free version of ChatGPT as well, which currently relies on data gathered before September 2021.
