The question “How can I improve my interview skills? arose in the mind of every fresh graduate and job seeker. The best way to solve this query is to learn from your own experience and asking the questions from professionals. Today, we (me and my friends) got the opportunity to discuss our queries with the HR manager of Amal academy Khawaja Ayub Khalid, which cleared a lot of our confusions. It was pleasure to meet him and enlightened through his experience. I would like share all these queries with their answers with the intention to help fresh graduates. The brief description of all these questions and their solutions is given as,

  1. What is your criteria of hiring the fresh candidate?

We always prefer the most passionate and sparkling candidate who show interest and eagerness to learn new and different things.

2. To what content soft and technical skills matters?

Though both skills are important but for fresh candidate soft skills are more notable than the technical skills because it is easy to train for technical skills. About 75% percent soft skills and 25% technical skills is a perfect combination in a fresh candidate.

3. What should a fresher do to keep confidence during interview?

There is no shortcut for this as you have to take experience by giving more and more interviews and come out of comfort zone.

4. How do you predict that candidate is behaving real or fake?

Experienced HR manager could easily predict that through eye contact, psychological behaviour, MBTI assessment and disc profile test so you shouldn’t lie in interview.

5. What you expect when you say “introduce yourself”?

We expect a lot from candidate to tell about his education background, skills, experience and goals in one minute which are not mentioned in resume.

6. How much English communication matters in interview?

You should try to speak in English especially when the HR manager is questioning in English but if he/she is speaking Urdu then you could give answers in Urdu.

7. About what percent you have to research about company?

The research about company is very important and you shouldn’t rely only on website. You could search the employer of that company on LinkedIn or via networking to research about company in detail.

8. Is in person drop of resume make good impression on HR manager or not?

As everyone is busy in this fast world nowadays so you should have to take appointment before going for in person drop of resume or maybe HR manager is out of company and you could not meet him. Appointment also show your passion and good manners.

9. What is the scope of social science in HR department?

You could be shifted to HR department for recruitment process if you are a experienced employer and subject didn’t matter in this case.

Takeaways:

Though we learned a lot from this meeting but the three main takeaways are:

  1. In case of company’s research, you should study their projects, core values, opportunities and products in detail rather than surface study.
  2. Soft skills as your behaviour, manners, emotional intelligence and communication skills matter a lot. Lacking in any of soft or technical skill could be drawback for you so you shouldn’t left any stone unturned.
  3. You shouldn’t have to create your own stories because your body language could told everything so be real and give the answers wisely.

We’ll definitely remember all these points and try to follow them during interview for making the difference.
