Odd convergences. My parents adopted two Korean children in 1959, when we lived in Indianapolis. They formed a support group for parents who adopted Korean children, and held gatherings once every couple of months or so, essentially big potluck suppers with a lot of conversation. Rev. James Jones was a part of this group, and came to our home a number of times. My parents respected the work he did serving the poor areas of Indianapolis with his People’s Temple and its free soup kitchen.

Many decades later, I live in LA and am part of the same religious organization as Laura Kohl, and we’re friends both because of the religious connection and the Jones connection — and because we like and respect each other.
