A compelling “vision” of applied technology — signaling their will to power, to dominate modernity — is to them what bird calls are to prospective mates. It’s how they know in whom to invest, whom to make their heirs in the class of supremely wealthy executives. The ability to “tell a good story” — one that conceals the drive to obliterate something that provides many a livelihood in order to amass wealth and gain prestige — is how they know each other. The destruction is swept under the rug of capitalistic ventures. They hoard wealth, then tell us what leadership is about. They abuse power, and consider themselves beyond accountability, which is what they demand of the people charged with finding new, additional ways for them to amass wealth.
