Finally, I, Jay Chua, own my resale HDB 4-room house property in Singapore after 11 years here. The house was completed in the year 2000 and had one previous owner. I bought it at the end of 2023. I designed and created everything myself, providing detailed instructions. I measured everything and purchased items such as lamps, cabinets, shower room essentials, mostly from Shopee and Taobao. By working directly with a contractor, I significantly reduced my renovation costs to about SGD 25,000. In comparison, quotes from interior design companies ranged between SGD 150,000, which would have required a renovation loan. The contractor handled heavy-duty work like hacking, new wiring, switches, and anti-mould painting for the entire unit.

Achieving a Luxurious and Spacious Interior

In the end, I completed the interior design myself and am very satisfied with the result. The modern minimalist cozy white design, combined with the L-box false ceiling, makes the house look luxurious and more spacious. I installed the L-box false ceiling in both the living room and master bedroom. Guests at my housewarming feel relaxed — it truly feels like a home or hotel. Despite the walkway corridor outside, the interior remains private. Even with my door open, outsiders cannot see into my living room — they only see the entrance with a sunflower drawing with frame on the wall, beautiful chandelier, and one big table. The transformation is striking, with a total change of about 90%. I saved significantly on renovation costs and am pleased with my design, implemented by my contractor.
