Renewal in the Garden

A year away and we returned to some unkempt catastrophes, from dead plants to tired soil, rat infestations, and dirty chicken coops. But things are starting to look better. Well sort of, they’re starting to look like somebody cares enough to clean up and do something about the mess!

When we first got back the yard was full of weeds … and everything was really dry since nothing had been watered all summer!

But things are cleaning up! We’ve cleaned up brush and debris piles,

Put a new roof and concrete floor in the chicken coop.

We pulled weeds and repaired paths.

We’ve pulled out raised beds, and begun to spread the soil as well as transplant and begin shaping out rows all by hand.

It’s been a lot of work but it’s starting to come together. My seedlings are getting anxious to get in the ground.

More yard work today but success is in sight. At least I figure it’ll all be cleaned up by first frost and then I’ll be in the greenhouse coddling all my young herb plants through the short days of winter while sipping tea and writing to you.
